Felix Baumgartner, the Austrian base jumper and skydiver renowned for his spectacular flights and leaps from the stratosphere, has died at age 56 in a paragliding accident in the Marche region, near Fermo. Baumgartner achieved international fame with his 2012 feat, when he leaped from over 39,000 meters, breaking the sound barrier and setting three world records.
Throughout his career, Baumgartner has racked up a long list of extreme jumps and performances that have made him an adrenaline icon: from BASE jumping from Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro to flying over the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, to freefall records. The blob of his feats lives on today in a series of videos that celebrate the man capable of taking extreme sports beyond all limits.
